Kathryn Smith represents the culmination of over a century of refinement of the technique first credited to the early Provincetown printers at the turn of the 20th century. Kathi Smith’s work has evolved over the past twenty-five years from the initial simplicity of her earliest prints to a far more intense form, then back briefly to a minimalist approach and most recently to a new complexity one does not usually associate with the white-line print. Kathi Smith has crossed the fine white line with her constant desire to push this print form in the 21st century. She has found a comfort level within the block that has produced remarkable results.
. . . . . . . . . . . Kathryn Smith has taken the white-line print, developed by B.J.O. Nordfeldt in 1915, and taken it into the 21st century. She is arguably the best artist working in the medium today. She was taught the method at an early age by her grandmother, Ferol Sibley Warthen, who learned it from Blanche Lazzell.

She also has taught at Castle Hill Center for the Arts, Cape Cod Museum of Art, Center for Contemporary Printmaking, as well as other venues. . . . . . . . . . . . Solo Museum Exhibitions
